Janice Edwards Obituary

Janice Gresh Bartosek Edwards, 70, of Girard, died suddenly on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

She was born June 10, 1955, a daughter to the late Michael and Mary Jane Fiesler Gresh.

Janice graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1973. Following high school, she entered the workforce at Brookpark Plastics, where she remained a loyal employee until the company closed. She then joined her family’s business at the station, working at Fiesler’s Service Station for over thirty years. She handled all the bookkeeping and willingly took on any task that needed to be done. In those early years, all family gatherings, including holiday celebrations and Sunday dinners, took place at the station where Janice’s quick wit brought laughter and smiles.

Throughout her life, Janice had a deep love for animals. She welcomed strays, naming each one, and cared for them faithfully. She raised ducks, fed outdoor cats, and lovingly cared for her dog, Simon. She also put out food for the birds and the abundant wildlife that gathered behind her back porch. Janice treasured the family property, and its tranquility brought great fulfillment and joy.

For those who knew Janice, she could be seen on the sidelines of Girard Soccer games, sipping her chocolate wine at the Legion (after signing up, of course), sitting at home listening to her Kenny Rogers collection, or hanging out with her best friend, Rita. She was the rock of the Gresh family, keeping everyone informed about picnics, events, and everything family related. In her younger years, she participated in the very first Bed Races at Dan Rice Days and bowled during the winter months. Janice was also a proud member of the Girard American Legion Post #494.

Her love for family ran deep, never forgetting birthdays and special occasions. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and was only a phone call away, often providing steady and compassionate care when it was needed most. Janice could be called a modern-day Florence Nightingale in the ways she provided care and follow-up for her loved ones, friends, and others throughout the community. To those who called her “Grammy Jan” or “Auntie”, Janice was the greatest cheerleader, listener, and confidant,

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent Bartosek; and three children in infancy, Christopher Bartosek, Christine Bartosek, and Baby Boy Gresh. She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her sisters, Linda Shields (Richard) and Susan McQueeney (Randy); brothers, Michael Gresh (Michele) and Alan Gresh (Michelle); life-long best friend, Rita Erdman; bonus children, John Zimmerman and Brandi Logan; as well as many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anna Shelter: 1555 E 10th St, Erie, PA 16511.
