James L. Hermann, 72, formerly of West Springfield, now Girard, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his home.
He was born November 23, 1952, a son to the late LeRoy and Joanne (Lillberg) Hermann.
James graduated from McDowell High School in 1971 and then went on to attend Erie County Vo-Tech School, where he studied as an electrician apprentice. His abilities were quickly recognized, and he began teaching entry-level courses for the school. He later entered the workforce at General Electric before finding new employment at GAF Roofing. His skills continued to grow throughout his career, and he eventually became the Chief Electrician at GAF. James mentored many young employees, teaching them the necessary skills and precautions for working with high-voltage electricity. After the closure of GAF, James returned to General Electric, where he worked in industrial electricity until his retirement.
Aside from his interest in electricity, James was also interested in computers and their evolution over the years, he became deeply curious about the complex nature of computer systems. In his spare time, he began building computers and circuit boards. His fascination and knowledge were appreciated by both family members and local businesses. James was a high-spirited young man, always active in his youth. James remodeled and rewired their home himself, taking the time to ensure every detail was done just right. He was always willing to share his expertise with anyone who needed it.
In his later years, James returned to another passion, motorcycles. He owned a Harley-Davidson Gold Wing and enjoyed many adventures with his wife through the back roads of Pennsylvania. They also cherished memories of a special vacation abroad.
He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his wife, Cheryl (Godfrey) Hermann, whom he married April 3, 1993; daughters, Jennifer Kennedy, Jessica Nye, and Michele Remington (Joe); step-son, James Steadman (Rachel); sister, Janet Knapp; brother, Roger Hermann (Kim); grandchildren, Kolten, Ethan, Aydenn, Keynann, Elyus, and Abbey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinsons Partners of Northwestern Pennsylvania, P.O Box 10547, Erie, PA 16514.
