Harry Shelander, 86, of Erie, died on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1937, a son to the late Harry and Winifred Courteaux.
Harry grew up in Erie and attended high school. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Metz, France, for most of his service. He served as a military policeman in the Quarter Masters Department in Metz. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Erie and started working at Pyramid Industries Inc. as a laborer. Harry steadily progressed within the company, eventually becoming a foreman and maintained an impressive record of rarely missing a day of work throughout his 40-year career.
Harry was a man on the move, in his youth he could rarely be found relaxing in on the couch. He was set in his ways and enjoyed seeing the end of a project well done. In his retirement he reentered the work force at Sears for a time to keep himself busy. Harry was a fisherman, often taking time with family members on the edge of Presque Isle or Lake Pleasant. He enjoyed his classic country music playing loud out of his precious Chrysler LHS. He kept dogs his whole life and cared for them affectionately. He loved having family in his home over the holidays, watching the commotion with a whole heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Shilling) Shelander; a daughter, Tammy Hayes; sister, Violet Overmoyer; brother, Robert Shelander.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Kathi Crawford (Richard), Sharon Regal (Norman) and Tina Edwards; a son in law, Adam; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edder Funeral Home, Inc., Girard, PA.
