Gerald “Jerry” Struchen, 86, of Girard died suddenly on Tuesday April 16, 2024 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.
He was born in Fairview on May 3, 1937 to Archie and Dorothy Camp Struchen. Jerry graduated from Springfield High School. Following his early education, he served 5 years in the US Army National Guard , worked as a machinist and raised his family in Girard. Jerry was family focused and did his best to plan a vacation or a special camping trip with his wife and two daughters every year. He was a hard worker and often held 2 jobs so he could provide for his family. Jerry loved to bowl, and looked forward to weekly games with his bowling league at both Lake City and Girard Bowling Lanes. Jerry's 269 high game plaque still hangs on his bedroom wall. Jerry's other favorite past time was fishing. Sometimes he would take his young grandsons along with him, and other times he would go on his own and enjoy the quiet solitude of the banks of Lake Erie and Elk Creek.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Gilbert) Struchen whom he married on November 9, 1963; mother, Dorothy (Camp) Struchen; father, Archie Struchen; brother, Clinton Struchen; and sister, Selma Brockett.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his daughters, Kimberly Keller (Dan); Valerie Hartley (Dan); grandchildren, Cory Hartley, Cody Hartley, Cameron Hartley (Krysta); Alex Keller and Zach Keller.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Anna Shelter, 1555 E 10th St, Erie, PA 16511, an animal rescue organization.
