Obituary

Gary L. Thompson, 66, of Union City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Corry Memorial Hospital. After fighting nothing short of a “good fight”, the Lord called Gary home.
He was born September 15, 1956, in Erie, a son of the late Richard S. and Alice E. (Harwood) Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Sylvia (Edder) Thompson.
Gary grew up in Phillipsville and graduated from Wattsburg High School in 1974. As a student he was a well-known football player for the Bobcats and went on to play in the Erie County All Star game of 1974.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many companies throughout the Erie County area. Gary enjoyed working outside and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a great storyteller and lived every moment to the fullest.
Gary had a quiet but strong faith, and was a friend to everyone he met; he never knew a stranger. He found great joy in celebrating the accomplishments of family and friends. Gary will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Jennifer L. (Bidwell) Thompson, whom he married January 6, 2006, in Union City; a daughter, Heather R. Thompson (Michael Daugherty); a son, Shawn R. Thompson (Mindy); a step-son, Gregory Olson; a sister, Barb Daly (Tom); two brothers, Ted Thompson (Carol) and Paul Thompson (Karen); a step-sister, Dawn Greene (Doug) and step-brother, Dan Edder (Bonnie); his grandchildren, Paige, Morgan and Chase, Shawn Jr., Dawson and Savannah and one great grandson coming soon, also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Phillipsville United Methodist Church, 11469 Phillipsville Rd., Wattsburg on Monday from 4PM to 7PM and are invited to attend services there on Tuesday at 11AM with Rev. Terry Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Lowville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, at donate.cancer.org.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Edder Funeral Home Inc., Girard.
