Gary R. Eicher, 71 of Toms River, NJ and formerly of Akron, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Akron on October 16, 1946, a son of the late Donald C. and Anne L. (Vargo) Eicher.
Gary graduated from South High School in Akron, OH in 1964. Following high school he worked at Firestone Tire Company. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and served at the Joint Expeditionary Base in Little Creek, VA. He continued serving in the US Naval Reserves until 1974. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to work at Firestone in Akron and also worked as a Paramedic there as well. He was most recently employed by Zodiac Aerospace in Wall, NJ where he retired from in 2008 following nearly 30 years of service with the company.
Gary was a longtime first responder and (EMT) at the Brick, NJ EMS; loved golfing, making his own candy; watching movies with and visiting his grandkids.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Downey.
Gary will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Denise C. (Smith) Eicher, whom he married July 17, 1982, also by two daughters, Kimberly L. French (Roger), Tricia M. Orum (Thomas); three sons, Timothy A. Eicher (Stephanie), Donald C. Eicher, Charles R. Eicher; his grandchildren, Natalie S. Dixon (Jeremy), Bryce V. Orum, Charlotte G. Eicher, Trystan T. Orum; great grandchildren, Avarie R. Dixon and Austynne E. Dixon and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 10 am to the time of a Memorial Service on Friday at noon at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St., East, Girard, PA 16417
