Frank A. Scalise Jr., 98 of East Springfield, passed away at his home on Monday, May 2, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Akeley PA, (Warren County) on April 22, 1924, a son of the late Frank R. and Edna (Arthurs) Scalise Sr.
Frank grew up in Springfield Twp. and was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War Two. He deployed to Europe in October of 1944 where he served as a part of a Gun Crew with Battery A, 558th Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapons Battalion. For his service he was awarded the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WW2 Victory Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to Springfield Twp. And began working as an Iron worker. As an Iron worker, he was proud of his work and remarked on assisting in the construction of the Niagara Falls Power Plant as well as the Nuclear Plant in Perry, OH.
He attended the Federated Church in East Springfield, played baseball with the Springfield Merchants; was a member of Erie Local#348 and Local#17 in Cleveland, the Girard American Legion Post# 494, and the Edinboro-McKean VFW Post #740.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Neva Mosinski, Lucille Bayus; brothers, Charles, Robert, Bernard “Bud,” Harmon and Glenn Scalise.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Myers) Scalise, whom he married on February 1, 1948, in East Springfield; four daughters, Vickie J. Davis, (Paul), Jan M. Bernini (Daniel), Joanne K. Rogers, (Richard), and Connie D. Solomon (Fred); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Everden; a brother Ron Scalise (Sue) and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 PM to 7PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Wednesday at 10AM with Pastor Ed Huntley officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
