Rigel (AF-58) and the U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61), attaining the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. Gene received the Good Conduct Medal before transferring to United States Navy Reserves. Upon his Honorable discharge Gene moved to Southern California.
While working for Southern California Edison and raising his family Gene continued his education at California State University at Fullerton, where he received a Degree in Business and Finance.  Gene started his career at Southern California Edison Corporation as a Substation Apprentice, progressed through First Operator and ended his career as a Test Technician A with his partner Bill Barcus, for whom he had great regard; they made a great team.
