Eric Mattson, 39, of Girard, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
He was born on November 24, 1983, a son to Steven and Angella (Angerer) Mattson.
Eric grew up in Girard, graduating from Girard High School in 2002. From childhood to young adulthood, he worked alongside his father at Mattson’s Auto. Eric loved working on and diagnosing vehicles. He then struck out on his own furthering his education at Fortis Institute where he focused on welding. Post-graduation, Eric joined Ridg-U-Rak, applying his welding skills. He worked at Automation Devices Inc. until returning to work at Mattson’s Auto.
He was a capable handyman, he approached tasks with a practical mindset, breaking down each step needed for success. Eric took his time to remodel his home inside and out. The outdoors was always a peaceful place for him to work, he enjoyed gardening and looking after his chickens. He loved vacationing in Mexico Beach, Florida with his family. His days were dedicated to preparing meat for the smoker, showcasing his cooking skills. In Erie's cold winters, Eric and friends went ice fishing for perch, which he eagerly fried once home. He was included in the Mattson’s Auto softball team, participated in billiard tournaments and spent evenings throwing darts.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joyce and Donnie Gehrlein and William Angerer.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his parents, Steven and Angella Mattson; daughters, Madeline Arnold and Harper Mattson; sons, Connor Mattson and Jayden Mattson; sister, Amber Mattson; brother, Bryan Mattson (Jessica); as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eric Mattson Memorial Fund in Care of Edder Funeral Home Inc.
Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. E. Girard. A Funeral Service will be held there the following day, Saturday at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Springfield Cemetery.
