Elizabeth "Betty" (Durante) Unger

Elizabeth "Betty" (Durante) Unger, 89, died on Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Port Charlotte, Florida. 

  Elizabeth "Betty" Durante Unger was born May 19, 1932, a daughter of Anthony and Dorothy Hill Durante in Camden, NJ.

  She was raised and educated in Camden, NJ, graduating from Camden Catholic High School in 1950. She married Vincent Unger on February 12, 1954 in Camden, N.J. and in that same year moved to Girard, PA.  She worked at the Green Shingle Restaurant and raised her family.

  Betty was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Girard, St. John the Evangelist Choir, Light of Christ Catholic Church's Choir in Clearwater, FL, St. Thomas More Choir in Sarasota, FL, Dunedin Community Chorus in Dunedin, FL, St. John's Altar Rosary Society and Holy Spirit Auxiliary.  She was also an avid bowler and belonged to bowling leagues at Suburban Lanes (now Westway Lanes) and was a Girl Scout Leader.  She enjoyed gambling, walking, reading, crocheting and singing.

  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Unger, who died on September 28, 1999; her daughter, Elizabeth Jane Jarvi; sisters, Mary Bartello, Dorothy Martin, Theresa Linen and Genevieve Ludwikowski; brothers, Martin Durante and John Durante and his wife Regina, in infancy, Thomas Durante; and a granddaughter, Melissa K. Tirpak.

  Betty is survived by her two sons, Vincent "Bud" Unger Jr. of Hodges, SC and Joseph Unger and his wife Susan of Mechanicsville, VA; her four daughters, Kathleen A. Warfield and her husband Mark of East Springfield, PA, Susan M. Greenfield and her husband Terry of Hodges, SC,  Marcia M. Williams and her husband Michael of W. Springfield, PA  and Linda C. Tafta and her husband Tony "Rip" of Ninety-Six, SC; sister, Patricia Gancar and her husband Roy of Leesburg, FL; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. 

  Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at St. Johns Cemetery in Girard on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
