Edward Jones Obituary

Edward Dale Jones, 80, of Cranesville, died at home on February 16, 2023 following a battle with cancer.

He was born in Cranesville on July 15, 1942, a son to the late James and Sylvia (Taylor) Jones.

Ed grew up on Crane Road surrounded by his large family. He followed in the footsteps of his siblings by working for Kennedy's Store delivering bread and milk to neighbors and family friends. He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1960 and attended Penn State Behrend. He and his loving wife, Charlene, were married on August 29, 1964. Ed and Charlene soon built a home with help from their family in Cranesville. From a young age, he dedicated his time and efforts to the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department. His efforts as a firefighter led him to become past business President and Fire Chief. Ed was a machinist at Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad for half his career. He then moved his work to Riley Stoker and furthermore to General Electric where he assembled armatures retiring after years of hard work.

He was a caring husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. Ed encouraged his children to get into the outdoors from a young age, often camping as well as teaching them as he was a true woods man with a love of nature. He enjoyed riding his quad on the acreage at home in addition to falling and splitting trees. Ed was an avid hunter. Throughout his years he kept multiple dogs and cats which he loved dearly. His care for family could be seen in his long travels to Colorado and Florida to visit loved ones.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by; his sisters, Ruth Campbell, Grace “Irene” Bennett, Gladys Sherman, Lucille Johnson and Bonnie Jones; brothers, Leroy, Clyde, Harold and Arnold Jones; and son-in-law, Patrick Mahoney.

He will be greatly missed by his family which include his wife of 58 years, Charlene (Copeck) Jones; daughters, Jennifer Mahoney and Joanna Taylor (Byron); sons, William Jones and David Jones (Lori); sister, Elsie Callahan; brother, Bernell Jones; grandchildren, Brianna and Sean Mahoney, and Lauren Taylor.
