Edward J. Bensur

Edward J. Bensur, 97, of Erie and formerly of Lake City, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Independence Court, Erie.
 He was born March 13, 1925, In North Girard, (Now Lake City), a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary (Pitek) Bensur Sr.
Ed graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1943. As America was at War, Ed was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served as an airplane hydraulic technician on the famous B-24 Liberator. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, and the WW2 Victory Medal.
Upon his discharge from the military, he returned to West County and began employment at the Girard Model works. Ed eventually went to work for American Sterilizer Corp. (Now Steris) for many years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Julia Roman Catholic Church in Erie, the Girard American Legion Post #494 and enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables. Ed was among the original members /founders of the K of C League that started in the seventies. He was very proud of this league and was a driving force in keeping it alive for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Millie (Youschak) Bensur; his second wife, Mary E. (Fuller) Courteaua Bensur; a daughter, Diane Bensur; sisters, Helen Meldon, Anna Dudas and Frances Kuharsky; brothers, Joseph, Bill, John, Tom, Sylvester, Bob, and Paul Bensur.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which include his three sons, Dennis Bensur (Sarena), Michael Bensur (Mary), Kenneth Bensur (Colleen); ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5PM to 8 PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer Service will be held there on Thursday at 10AM. 
Burial will be in St. John Cemetery with full military honors.
