Edmund M. Rakowski

Edmund M. Rakowski, 69, of Platea, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 17, 2023, at his home.
He was born December 8, 1953, in Erie, a son of Pauline J. (Bleakney) Rakowski of Fairview, and the late Edmund S. Rakowski, who passed in 1996.
Ed graduated from Cathedral Prep High School in 1971. Following high school, he attended Gannon University, where he studied Political Science. While attending school, he worked at local garages, perfecting his hobby of auto mechanics.  He became a certified transmission technician. Over the course of his 50 year career, he worked for Angelo’s, AAMCO and most recently VAS Transmissions, before retiring in 2021.
Active in local politics, he was Secretary of the Platea Boro Council and Council Member for 30 years, a co-creator of the West Erie County Emergency Management Agency (WECEMA),  and a co-creator of the Joint Municipal Recycle Day.
He was a frequent guest bartender at Krazy Acres, specializing in margaritas. 
Ed’s greatest accomplishment was raising his children and becoming an amazing grandfather. He loved taking his grandkids fishing, frog hunting, watching endless SpongeBob shows, teaching them about space and science, and always making sure they knew how proud he was of them everyday.
Ed will be greatly missed by his family, which in addition to his mother, includes the mother of his children, Linda K. Rakowski of Lake City; a daughter, Sarah E. Lentz (Joshua) of Wilmington, NC; two sons, Jason A. Rakowski (Katie Wingard) and Patrick A. Rakowski (Christina) of Girard; a sister, Joan M. Rakowski of Fairview; a brother, Theodore A. Rakowski of Erie and his grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas, Jacob, Jackson, Athena and Helena.
Memorial Visitation will be on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cathedral Prep Alumni Fund, 250 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16501 and West County Paramedics, 6852 Meadville Rd., Girard, PA 16417.
