Dr. John Gregory Hrinda

Dr. John Gregory Hrinda, age 84, of Girard, PA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2022. 

Born on May 9, 1938 in Girard, to the late John M. and Sophie C. (Drongosky) Hrinda. He was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene (Hrinda) Grayson.

John graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1956, where he played football for the "Yellow Jackets" and was affectionately known as "Tooth." Following high school, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from John Carroll University in 1960 and Medical Doctor degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1964. He served his internship in Erie, PA at St. Vincent Health Center. John specialized in family practice, with his office located in Fairview, PA. He was a caring, generous, and devoted physician to his community. His friends nicknamed him the "Country Doctor", but his kindness and compassion towards his patients went above and beyond his role as the Doctor. John loved his patients and would go out of his way to meet their needs. His children remember piling up in the car to go with him on house calls. 

John was passionate about volunteering - he donated his time to several organizations within the community including Erie Times Newsie, the Crippled Children’s Christmas party and Saints and Sinners Club. He also enjoyed singing with his church choir. 

He was named Who's Who in the East, 1981; a member of the faculty of Gannon University; taught Pediatric Residents at St. Vincent Health Center; a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice; a Member of the Erie County Medical Association; The PA Medical Society; American Medical Association and American Academy of Family Practice; the Medical Director of Pleasant Ridge Manor; Staff Physician at St. Vincent Health Center and Hamot Medical Center; member of American Medical Directors Association; member of Erie County Human Relations Commission; Delegate for PA Medical Director; Past Chairman of John Carroll University Alumni Association, Erie Chapter, Host and guest speaker on Erie - Focus on Medicine, sponsored by the Erie County Medical Society; Host and guest speaker of Classy 100, Radio of Medicine. 
John was a member of the Kahkwa Club, the Erie Maennerchor Club, the Aviation Club, the Old Times Newsies, the Make A Wish Foundation, and Board of Directors of the United Way. He was also a proud Past President of the National Circus Saints and Sinners of America.

He is survived by three daughters, Sharon M. MacKendrick (Chris), Kimberly Kamppi (Matt), Diane Kamppi Jenkins (Paul); two sons, John M. Hrinda (Allison Vazquez) and Timothy A. Hrinda (Dr. Rahim Jones); his sisters, Eleanor "Ellie" Dibble and Frances Pontoriero; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He loved God, his family, his community, and his dogs.  One of his favorite verses in the Bible was Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Friends and family are invited to the Edder Funeral Home on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10:00 am to 11:00 am for a celebration of his life.
