Donna L. (McKinney) Scarpelli

Donna L. (McKinney) Scarpelli, 83, of Fairview, died on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. 

She was born on October 13, 1939, in Altoona, PA, a daughter of the late Leroy and Gladys (Kepner) McKinney.

Donna graduated from Academy High School in 1957. She was soon married and began a family. In those younger years she and her husband traveled with the military throughout the United States and Germany. Donna loved her family and faithfully served them for many years. She worked at J.C. Penney, Giant Eagle and First National Bank as a teller. She was very involved in her children's lives from an early age. Taking part in Girl Scouts as well as PTA at St. Johns Catholic School. She was an experienced cook and baker, her family never had a bad meal. Family parties were often a scene of great laughter and tables of food for all. Holidays were regularly busy get together's with Donna and often quite loud. 

She volunteered her time for many years with St. Johns Catholic Church at the Social Hall. She was the lead cook as well as helped to organize for many weddings and parties. She was a member of the Cursillo Movement and a Eucharistic Minister. Donna later assisted in the annual fish fries at Holy Cross Catholic Church. In addition, she volunteered her time and efforts to the Erie City Mission and to the Presque Isle clean up. 

Donna enjoyed her time at home developing her skills in sewing. In past years, she mended her children's clothing as well as creating many gifts for family, such as baby quilts and Christmas tree skirts that both are cherished to this day. Donna's grandchildren were a labor of love, assisting whenever asked without hesitation. She also enjoyed the monthly birthday club get together's held to keep in touch with old friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Sharie, whom she married July 22, 1955; a brother, Richard McKinney; and grandson, Andrew Swope.

She will be greatly missed by her family, which includes her husband, James Scarpelli, whom she married on May 6, 1995;  four daughters, Debbie Swope, Kelli Hart (Paul), Beth Ellsworth (Sean) and Laura Cramer; son, Joe Sharie (Marlise); step-daughter, Maria Taraszkiewicz (Joe); two step-sons, Anthony Scarpelli (Mary Ann) and Edward Scarpelli; sister, Sue Ann Pier (James); brother, William McKinney (Lydia); grandchildren, Michael Swope (Jill), Lauren Randazzo (Vince), Christa Trifanoff (Tim), Mariah Sharie, Amanda Sharie, Ryan Ellsworth, Tesssa D'Urso (Tony), Taylor Ellsworth, Sam Cramer (Nicole), Luke Cramer and Gabby Cramer; step-grandchildren, Devin Scarpelli (Lida), Noah Scarpelli (Emily) and Jordan Scarpelli;  six great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7100 W. Ridge Road, Fairview, PA 16415.

Friends may call on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. to the time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
