Obituary

Dolores A. "Dodie" Bensur, formerly of Lake City, 86, died at St. Vincent Hospital on Tuesday May 3, 2022. 
  
  She was born on November 30, 1935 to the late Daniel Jr. and Gladys (Vaughn) McGaughey in North East, PA. She graduated from St. Gregory High School in North East in 1953 where she lettered in basketball.  Dodie graduated with a B.A. in Science from Mercyhurst College in 1957. She also graduated from the School of Medical Technology at St. Vincent's Hospital and worked in their laboratory. Dodie then took some time off while her family was young, but as her family grew she went back to work; Where she established the laboratories at the Elk Valley Medical Center in Lake City and the Erie Geriatric Center, now known as Pleasant Ridge Manor for 10 years. She retired from the ACL in the Laboratory at St. Vincent Hospital Surgery Center. 

  Dodie was a member of St. John the Evangelist in Girard, the Alter Rosary Society, Holy Spirit Auxiliary and the Funeral Luncheon Committee. She was also a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and was a volunteer at St. Paul's Clinic for a period of time. 
   She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge with friends often entertaining many of them at her home for meals. Dodie worked side by side with her husband Paul and her boys farming on their land. When the growing season was over she kept busy canning and freezing their produce. Her spirit of hospitality was always present, she loved her family and she and Paul shared their produce with family and friends.
  
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Bensur, Sr., whom she married on August 2, 1958; sisters, Marie Nedza, Catherine Cooper, Eileen Farley, and Monica Duke; brothers, John McGaughey and Francis McGaughey.

  Dodie is survived by her loving family which includes her sons, Paul A. Bensur, Jr. (Lisa), Daniel J. Bensur (Patricia), Francis J. Bensur (Joy), and James A. Bensur (Tammie); sisters, Carol Reinhold (Bill) and Margaret "Mitzi" Keough; a brother, Robert McGaughey (Ellen); grandsons, Paul A. Bensur III (Kelsey), Blaine Bensur, Jason Bensur, and Joshua Bensur; granddaughters, Nicole Wagner, Gabriella Bensur, Julia Bensur, Justine Bensur, and Jacquelyn Bensur; and many nieces and nephews. 
  
   Friends may call on Friday May 6, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. Girard, PA. A prayer service will be held there on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave. Girard, PA, with, Father Scott Detisch officiating. Burial will take place in the St. John's Cemetery.
