Dennis Harkness Obituary

Dennis Paul Harkness, 77, of Girard, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

He was born on May 19, 1948, a son of the late Dennis Carl and Marjorie (Frame) Harkness.

Dennis spent his early years traveling with his family before settling in Crawford County, where he was educated in the Cambridge Springs School District. Following his schooling, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving honorably with the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor. After his honorable discharge, he returned home.

Dennis was employed by EMSCO Group for many years until his retirement, serving in multiple roles, most recently in maintenance. In retirement, he found great enjoyment working in the hospitality department at Walmart, where he appreciated the interaction with others.

Throughout his life, Dennis had a deep passion for boxing. At a young age, he became a two-time State Champion in kickboxing, and the sport remained a central part of his life. He studied it extensively and later devoted time to coaching young men, leaving a lasting impact that is still felt today. Overshadowing boxing was his deepest passion found in his relationship with Jesus Christ. He served as a Sunday School teacher to multiple generations and devoted over 10 years of his life to prison ministry. His greatest joy was helping others grow in life and spiritually.

Dennis found peace and happiness in the outdoors in order to wind down. He enjoyed riding motorcycles—often sharing the open road with his son—and kayaking on the lakes of Pymatuning and the waters of French Creek. Second to his relationship with Christ, his time spent with family was most important to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda (Undercofler) Harkness; and his son, Dennis Le Mott Harkness.

He will be greatly missed by his family which include his wife, Darlene (Deist) Harkness whom he married April 10th, 1993; his daughter, Bobbi (Chris); his son, Aaron Harkness (Elena); his sisters, Lynn Sherred (Larry) and Karen Coon; his brothers, Daniel Harkness (Nena), Gerald Harkness (Eva), and William Harkness; seven grandchildren, including Norah Harkness and Michaela Pierce who have been an incredible blessing; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
