David H. Wurst, 91 of Girard, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Fairview Manor surrounded by family.
David was born February 14, 1935, in Erie, a son of the late Herman W. and Nellie Mae Wilkins Wurst.
David graduated from Academy High School in 1953. Soon after high school, he began working for his father at West Side Feed and Fuel, later working for Laurel Hill Cemetery on the grounds crew. He had also worked for Horton-Wilbert Vault Co. in Girard, (Now Great Lakes Vault and Precast), the James H. Cross Co. in Erie as a salesperson for machinery tools, and the Holiday Inn, Erie as the Maintenance Supervisor. In 1970, he started the David H. Wurst Construction Co., and later purchased the Imperial Point Water and Waste Co. and Fairview Sanitation Co. in 1980. He also worked as a bus driver for the Girard School District for many years. David served in the U.S Naval Reserve for twenty years.
David enjoyed hunting, and was a former member of the First Alliance Church of Erie in the cooking ministries as well as a trustee for several years. Dave was a past Elder, Deacon, and trustee at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Erie and served as a member of the Federated Church of East Springfield, Koinonia #33 and the board of LOVE, INC.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Hovis Wurst, whom he married March 17, 1956 in Erie; sons-in-law, Robert Garlock and Dr. Terry Greenlee; and sister-in-law, Lillian Wurst.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Anderson) (Cooney) (Foye) Wurst, whom he married May 6, 1988 in Girard; also three daughters, Deborah Pazmiño (Julio), Rebekah S. Garlock, Christina L. Volstad (Rev. Steve); three sons, David W. Wurst (Kim), Daniel S. Wurst (Cindy), Christopher "Chad" A. Wurst (Chris); three step daughters, Carol A. Hill, Christine M. Greenlee, Susan P. Campbell (Jeff); three step sons, Charles "Dan" Foye (Dr. Sue), Patrick G. Foye (Barbara), Thomas L. Foye; a sister, Marilyn Walker (James); a brother, Calvin Wurst; 28 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Federated Church of East Springfield, 11995 Main St, East Springfield, PA 16411 or the religious institution or Christian mission of your choice.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Federated Church, 11995 Main St, East Springfield, PA 16411.
