With love and sorrow, we share the passing of David B. Oas, who left this world on his 84th birthday.
Born on July 24, 1941, in Silverton, Oregon, David was the firstborn son of the late Carl B. Oas and Viona L. Oas. In his early childhood, the family relocated to Pennsylvania, where he spent the majority of his life before settling down and becoming a resident of St. Augustine, Florida.
David graduated from Kiski High School and Oregon State University. He served with dedication as CEO and CFO of EMSCO, a family-owned business, from 1966 until his retirement in 2019. In addition to his leadership at EMSCO, David served on various advisory boards and committees in the community, where he was widely respected for his integrity, insight, and leadership.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was a man of depth, curiosity, and personal passions. He was an avid traveler who found joy in exploring the cultures of Europe, with a special love for Spain. Sailing, tennis, classical music, art, playing the organ, and history were lifelong interests, and he was a devoted supporter of wildlife and conservation.
Over the years, David formed a small circle of loyal and dear friends whose companionship brought him laughter, insight, and lasting joy. These friendships became chosen family, and he cherished them deeply.
David was known for his love of animals, his appreciation for nature, and his endearing quirks—especially his fondness for old Westerns and Spanish soap operas, which he watched religiously. Whether discussing world events, sharing investment insights, or reflecting on a favorite film or historical moment, David always brought his steady presence and unique perspective.
He is survived by his sister Dianne Clark and her husband Frank; his brother Stephen Oas and wife Mary; his brother Dennis Oas; and his sister Susan Beam and husband Michael. David was a beloved uncle to 13 nieces and nephews, and a cherished great-uncle to many.
A private gathering will be held to honor David’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in his memory to a wildlife organization of your choice.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and quiet legacy live on in all who knew him.
