Charles "Chuck" E. Hawkinson

Charles E. Hawkinson "Chuck", 89, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Chuck was born in Jamestown, NY, on December 2, 1935, to the late Paul and Irene (Hall) Hawkinson.

He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954 and continued his education at Thiel University. Following college, Chuck moved to Erie in search of work. He held several jobs in the area before securing a position at Zurn Industries, where he worked as an electrical engineer for over thirty years. His career at Zurn offered him many opportunities, including international travel to work on computer systems across the entire world. Throughout his life, Chuck was known for his hard working nature and often worked multiple jobs simultaneously. Toward the end of his tenure at Zurn, he also worked in the IT Department at Penn State Behrend for several years until retiring.

Chuck was also a skilled tax specialist and continued helping others with their taxes well into his later years.

A lover of technology, Chuck stayed updated on the latest developments in the tech world. He purchased one of the first commercially sold Apple computers and remained loyal to Apple throughout his life. In addition to technology, Chuck enjoyed cars, bowling, golfing, and most of all, playing poker with friends and family.

He was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and the East Erie Moose Family Center Lodge #593.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricka Anderson Hawkinson and his sister, Edith Johnson.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Linda Hawkinson; daughters, Susan Haener (Ronald), Sandy Hawkinson, Sally Hawkinson (John), and Sara Sawtelle (Gary); sons, Dave Kirik II (Kristen) and Jeremy Kirik; grandchildren; Rebecca Haener, Allison Truong, Jack Kirik, Jason Kirik, Brittany Kirik, Hanna Kirik; great-grandchildren, Kason, Emilia, Cyrus, Roxana, Kaiden and Ari; and four nieces who were like daughters to him, Julie Swanson (Steve), Lauri Carlson (Jeff), Debbie Sadowski (Gary), Sheri Edwards (Kevin), whom he cherished deeply.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' name may be made to the Greenfield Baptist Church, 9028 Williams Rd, North East, PA 16428.

Friends may join the family for a Memorial Service on Thursday, January 23, 2025 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenfield Baptist Church.
