Charles D. Lloyd Sr., 71, of Albion, passed away on August 12, 2022, due to complications following his liver transplant surgery.
Charles was on born June 26, 1951, to the late Paul “Chick” Lloyd and Ellen (Dalrymple) Aquino and was preceded in death by his stepdad, Alfred “Skip” Aquino, a cousin and several aunts and uncles.
Chuck grew up in Conneaut, Ohio and attended Academy High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the Erie area. He began working at Great Lakes Towing Company, where he was part of a tugboat crew for over 10 years. Chuck loved his time on the water. His career then led him to GAF Roofing, where he retired. From there, he found a greater purpose in counseling troubled youth at Harborcreek Youth Home for boys. He also stayed busy over the years at the Barber Center, Hermitage House and the Port Authority in Conneaut.
Chuck loved to hunt and enjoyed all things NASCAR and football. He was a loyal Chicago Bears fan and a Wolverine until he came to his senses when his son-in-law, Joshua, converted him to be a proud Buckeye. His proudest achievement was his 36 years of sobriety. His work with Alcoholics Anonymous gave him purpose and was instrumental in helping others achieve sobriety by leading multiple groups and being a sponsor to many. To know Chuck was to love him, particularly his sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife, Ruth Ann (Kelch) Lloyd, whom he married on March 19, 1988; daughter, Kelli Doty (Joshua); son, Charles D. Lloyd Jr.; sisters, Pearl Ann Curtis, Faith Valentine and Carol Preusser; grandchildren; Harper and Haedyn Doty.
