Catherine L. Platz

Catherine Lucille "Kate" Platz, 98, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Manchester Commons.

Kate was born on November 20, 1926, in Farrell, PA, to the late Paul and Mary Jones (Roseski).

She was the proud owner of Platz's Tavern for thirty five years. During that time, she also pioneered in buying and flipping houses all over West County. Kate was also known for her excellent work as a seamstress. She could repair anything, no matter the problem, and even made her own clothes from scratch. Kate was always doing something, whether it was playing bingo, making clothes and jewelry, or even hanging drywall.

Kate was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was also a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494 Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Platz Sr.; sisters, Martha Vanicek, Gladys Smisko, Margaret McDonald, Isabelle Cooper and her brother, Thomas Jones.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Schultz; her grandson, Thomas Platz II (Sara) and their three children; as well as nieces, nephews and special friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kate's name may be made to the Catherine Platz Memorial Fund under the care of Edder Family Funeral Home, LLC.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7100 West Ridge Road, Fairview, PA 16415, with a funeral mass beginning at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Church St, Girard, PA 16417.
