Carol R. (Lewis) Amidon, 81, of Butler and formerly of Girard, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at UPMC Hamot.
She was born December 10, 1939, in Erie, a daughter of the late Gordon C. and Naomi R. (Gere) Lewis.
Carol graduated from Girard’s Rice Avenue Union High School in 1957 and whose senior description was, “True in Friendship and Gracious in Manner”. Following high school, she was a Mother and Wife for many years as her family was her priority.
At the age of 30, Carol decided to further her education at Edinboro State College. While there, her name continued meritoriously on the Dean’s List amongst the student body. Carol graduated from there with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1972. There, she continued her education accomplishing a Masters of Education Degree with a major in Educational Psychology in 1973. Carol then earned a second Masters of Education Degree majoring in School Psychology in 1974.
Carol endeavored her full professional career at the Midwestern Intermediate Unit 4 (IU4) in Grove City as a Children’s School Psychologist, retiring from this position.
There she was instrumental and greatly respected in the development of the Gifted Programs at the IU4, including the establishment of the Academic Games for the district’s student body.
Carol was very proud of her home and took great pride taking care of her garden and landscaping. She loved learning throughout her life and continued studying during her retirement at the Institute of Learning and Retirement (ILR) at Slippery Rock University for nearly a decade. Carol was an avid member of the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Craftsman Guild, and the Butler Little Theatre for countless years. She passioned jazz music, as well as all types of art, wool spinning and pottery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl A. Amidon in 2019, widow of Laura Amidon.
She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her two granddaughters, Amy L. Amidon and Sarah E. Amidon-Fuller both of Erie; a grandson, Christopher J. Amidon of Bradford, PA; her great grandchildren, Karen Harris, Oryana Thompson, Mia Fuller and Halle Fuller.
Services will be held privately by the family.
