Bradley Sydow Obituary

Bradley G. "Brad" Sydow, 83, of Lake City, died on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
Brad was born in Erie on July 3, 1940, a son of the late William and Opal (Swift) Sydow.
He graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1958, where he was elected a member of the Girard Unitas Chapter of the National Honor Society.
Following high school, he moved to Detroit and went to work for United Airlines as a Customer Service Representative. In 1963 he was inducted into the US Army and later deployed to Frankfurt, Germany where he served as a Transportation Specialist. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to the Detroit area continuing employment with United. He transferred to Los Angeles with United, eventually retiring from there. In his 50's he returned to college at Azusa Pacific University to earn a Master of Divinity degree and was then employed at Azusa as Assistant to the President of the University. After some years there, he followed the university president to Spring Arbor University in Michigan to continue working for 6 years.  He purchased a large house there to help provide housing for students that lived with him there. When he left Spring Arbor, he sold his home and donated the entire amount to the University. From there, Brad moved back to San Diego, California and worked at St. Catherine College in their Library, retiring in 2016. Following his retirement, he returned home to the Girard area to assist his sister Bonnie until she was placed in Pleasant Ridge Manor. In 2021 his niece, Donna moved in with him for 2 years as his caregiver until July 2023 at which time he was placed in Pleasant Ridge Manor. He attended the Girard Alliance Church and enjoyed taking care of his home and property in Lake City. Brad was a philanthropist by nature and gave to many charities on a regular basis including Salvation Army, Boys Town, Wounded Warriors, Red Cross, Feed the Children and many, many more. He wouldn't think twice to help family, friends, neighbors or even strangers if he could by way of maybe giving them a ride somewhere, buying much needed groceries or just giving cash because someone was in need. He always had a smile on his face, an upbeat attitude about things and was fun to be around. He will definitely be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by child brother Bernard Sydow, sisters Bertha Leuschen and Bonnie DuMars and brother Norman Sydow. He is survived by niece Donna Kuffer of Lake City, nephew Eric Leuschen (Janet) of California and Johnathan Sydow of Idaho and many other great nieces and nephews.
