Beverly Miller Obituary

Beverly Miller, loving wife and mother of three children, died peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the age of 86.
She was born in Cambridge Springs, PA on March 20, 1936.  She was the daughter of the late John C. and Jessie (Roberts) Prindle.
Bev graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School (1954) and attended Edinboro College, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education in 1958.  She married William (Bill) Miller her high school sweetheart in 1958.
She began her working career at the Girard Pharmacy during her high school and college years.  Her true love was education as she taught over forty years in the Girard School District until retiring in 1998.  Bev's pride and joy were always her three children, but her legacy was teaching kindergarten to multiple generations of children at Elk Valley Elementary School.  Her impact continues to be measured by the families she touched.
She was an active member of the Girard United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for twenty years, sung in the choir, a member of the women’s society and served on numerous committees.  She was a charter member of the Methodist Day Care Center.
For many years, she was the co-chairman of the Girard-Lake City Needy Fund.  She was on the board which formed the West County YMCA and served as the president from 1976-1978.  It was during this time that Bev and a good friend started West County soccer.
She received the citizenship award from the Girard Chamber of Commerce and the service award from the West County YMCA.  She and her husband received the Book of Golden Deeds from the Exchange Club in 2001.
Bev was a past president of the Wilcox Library and served more than forty years on the boards of the Wilcox and Rice Avenue Community Libraries.  Subsequently, Friends of the Library was formed where she served as the president for the first five years. Bill and Bev’s commitment to the Rice Avenue Community Library enabled the addition of the children’s wing.
She was a member of the Exchange Club, FLAGS, the Dan Rice Days Committee, life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Koinonia of Erie County and the Rice Avenue High School reunion committee.  She also served on the selection committee for Battles Village Retirement Center.
She thoroughly enjoyed riding in the Dan Rice Days Parade, throwing candy as the First Lady of Girard while Bill served as Mayor for 17-years.  In 2015, she was inducted into the Girard School District Foundation’s Hive of Fame.  In 2018, she and Bill were selected to serve as Grand Marshalls for the Dan Rice parade. Bev was known to say "There's no such thing as too many pairs of shoes!" She was also known for her impeccable taste in clothes, her children say she was born to shop. Bev was an avid reader and also enjoyed years of playing bridge with many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Lloyd Prindle, Leo Prindle, Dr. Clair Prindle and Russell Prindle and her three sisters, Opal Porter, Helen Miller and Nessie Stearns.
She is survived by her husband Bill Miller, daughter Lori Miller (Stephanie Race) of Silverthorne, CO, son Craig Miller (Daniel Valdivia) of Houston, TX, son Curt Miller of Bloomington, IN and his two sons, Brian and Shawn Seymour plus many nieces and nephews.
