Betty Quigley Obituary

Betty Ruth (DeMarco) Quigley, 97, sadly passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on March 10, 2023 after a brief illness.

She was born on December 20, 1925, in North Girard daughter to the late Frank and Ruth (Frey) DeMarco.

Betty grew up in North Girard, where she attended and graduated Union High School. Shortly after graduation, she worked at McCarty's General Store as a clerk. She also worked at Marx Toys and later at Elk Valley School. After a chance meeting on her way to work, she met "the love of her life" John B. Quigley whom she married May 20, 1946.

Betty was a devoted mother n wife, who was very independent and hard working. She took pride in her home and yard and loved being outside sprucing up the yard getting ready for the summer and the backyard picnics with family, playing badminton and croquet. At 97, she was still able to go in the back yard this past summer and play a game of croquet with her great-grandchildren and she showed them all up to win.

Betty loved to sew and make outfits for her daughter n her dolls when she was younger, while enjoying her classical n opera music. But Canasta was her game of choice, she grew up playing with her mother n sister, and went on to teach her daughter n grandchildren to play. She was very competitive while playing which sometimes ended with someone yelling or walking out the door.

As the years went on, she enjoyed packing a lunch n going for drives looking at nature and for wildlife.

Her sarcasm and wit kept us on our toes and in stitches and letting us know things were going her way, still even in her last days.

After many years apart, Betty has been reunited with her family, preceded in death by her  husband John Quigley, her parents Frank and Ruth DeMarco, her sister's Pauline Cook, Jean Larson, Virginia Sanders and her brother's Roger and Richard DeMarco.

She was loved dearly and will be truly missed by all her surviving family. Her daughter, Connie Quigley and her son, John Quigley, her grandchildren, Eric (Kari) Mehok, Stephanie (Shane) Mehok; great- grandchildren, Justin, Brandon and Nathan Young, Kendra and Philip Mehok, Kyle Wodarski and Kayla n Justin Upperman; great-great-grandchildren, Carson Hall, Anthony, Apollo and Lil Miss Skylar Young and her dear friend, Karen Komisarski and many nieces n nephews.

No services will be held upon her request, burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery.
