Barry A Whaley, 63, of Girard, unexpectedly died at his home, Monday May 8, 2023.

He was born in Sevierville TN, on May 30, 1959. The son of the late Ac and Martha (Ginn) Whaley.

Barry grew up in Sevier County, TN where he attended Sevier County High School, graduating in 1977. Barry's journey after high school led him to serve in the United States Army, where he exhibited great dedication and received several awards for his service. He spent his last few years of his service, serving in the Human Health and Services division of the 2nd Battalion 7th Field Artillery in Forscom FL. Throughout his time in the Army, Barry was recognized with the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Two NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Air Assault Badge, Driver-Mechanic Badge, Army Good Conduct Metal with Three Knots, Army Achievement Metal, Rifle Marksman Badge, and Expert Medical Badge. Following his Honorable Discharge, due to unexpected injuries, Barry returned home.

While Barry's military service was a significant aspect of his life, he was also known for his unique sense of humor that was beloved by his family. His jokes were always met with great laughter and he had a talent for making others smile. Barry's wife held a special place in his heart, and he met her at Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge, TN. He was a man of the Southern Baptist Faith, where he shared his passion for teaching by serving as a Sunday school teacher. His devotion to his beliefs was reflected in his daily prayers and his heartfelt singing. Barry's love for his family extended beyond his wife, as he had a close relationship with his mother-in-law, Rosemary, and enjoyed making her smile. Overall, Barry's story is one of a dedicated soldier with a great sense of humor, a deep faith, and a loving heart for those closest to him.
