Audrey J. Vogt, 89, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Audrey was born on July 20, 1934 to the late Richard and Gertrude (Murphy) Kimmy.
Audrey was a woman of ability and creativity. In her early years, Audrey could be found making candles under the clock of The Boston Store. She was an excellent seamstress; sewing school clothes for her children when they were young, and, later, prom and bridal dresses as they came of age. Her home was adorned with curtains and lovingly upholstered furniture, crafted by her hands. Audrey also enjoyed painting by number. The years of experience in cooking for her family honed her culinary talent, and her ambition led her to catering for weddings as well as running a restaurant with her mother. Audrey looked forward to each Wednesday night with the family table full.
Audrey worked at Waldameer Park in the gift shop. She drove a truck for the Fairview Nursery with her husband, Chuck. Audrey crafted seashell trinkets that she featured and sold at craft shows throughout Erie. Audrey and Chuck also enjoyed a milder winter climate, spending the season in Florida.
Audrey was active in the PTA and a Cub Scout Leader while her children were growing up. She was a member of the McKean United Methodist Church, where she was also a Sunday School Teacher. Audrey was very proud of her Irish heritage and had traveled to her homeland on two occasions.
Audrey was always a joy to be around, her selflessness was unlimited when extended to family and friends – she was quick to listen and assist in difficult times, and always ready to celebrate the joys of life with others. She was a fun and loving wife and mother, and grandmother caring for her loved ones thoroughly and wholeheartedly.
The family would like to especially thank Sharon, Audrey’s niece; the hospice nurses; as well as the family and friends who selflessly provided help and support.
Audrey will be greatly missed by her family which includes two daughters; Catherine "Cathy" Sauers (John) and Vickie Beatty (Jeff); a daughter-in-law, Carol Vogt; sister, Carolyn Gieza; grandchildren, Danielle Sauers, Troy Beatty, Dawn Rivera (Mike), Abigail "Abby" Beiswenger (Dave) and Matthew Vogt (Lauren); as well as eight great grandchildren, Tyler, Skyler, Auvie, Samantha, Brooke, Katie, Levi, and Jaxsen
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles E. "Chuck" Vogt, whom she married on September 13, 1950 in Cumberland, MD; as well as her son, Charles "Fred" Vogt; sister, Irene Mills; brother, Otis Kimmy; and granddaughter, Brigitte Sauers.
