Arlene P. Traut, 89 of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 following a brief illness.
She was born on March 4, 1933 to the late, Emory and Beryl (Cotton) Platz in Fairview, PA. Arlene graduated from Fairview High School in 1952. After graduation, she attended Erie Commercial College, studying secretarial duties and graduated in 1953. She then went to work at Security People Trust until the arrival of her children, staying home to take care of her family. She returned to work as a bus driver for over 22 years with Fairview School District, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church. Arlene enjoyed the Casinos in Erie and Salamanca. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and puzzles.
Arlene is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia L. Bortnick of Conneautville, Penny L. Hopkins of Fairview, and Sherry A. DiMattio (John) of Girard; a son, George R. Traut, Jr. (Cassandra) of Warren, PA; a sister, Geraldine Foringer and brother, Larry Platz; seven grandchildren, Samantha McBeth (Mike), Melodie Fusco (Josh) , Danielle Hopkins, John DiMattio (Jaime), Megan Green (Shawn), Corey Traut, Kyle Traut; great grandchildren, Hailey Thornton (Jason), Hollie Bortnick, Josyln Fusco, Nicole Fusco, Emilia DiMattio, Ezra DiMattio, Austin Green, Ella Traut and Charlianne Traut; great great granddaughter, Kennedy Thornton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Traut in 2011 whom she married June 20, 1953 in Fairview, son-in-laws, Bill Bortnick and Robert "Bo" Hopkins.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 PM to the time of service at 7PM at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard with Rev. Emily Zieg officiating.
Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery.
