Andrew "Andy" J. Vasilik Sr.

Andrew J. "Andy" Vasilik Sr., 73 of Girard, passed away on Sunday January 26, 2025, at Pleasant Ridge Manor.

Andy was born August 9, 1951, in Erie, a son of the late Mike and Dona (Delgado) Vasilik.

Andy graduated from Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School in 1969 and continued his education at Gannon College (now University) studying mathematics. Andy began employment with Swaney Cleaners making and installing custom draperies within homes throughout the Erie area. Notably, one of his drapery projects was featured in the magazine, "Better Homes and Gardens." Andy later worked construction, building homes, and before settling into a job at General Electric, where he worked in sheet metal fabrication. During GE'S Big Strike in the early 70's, Andy worked for the Girard Model Works. He continued working in the shops at Parker-White Metal, American Hollow Boring, and Kaiser Aluminum. Andy left the shop work life for employment with Doc Orr Construction in Girard and most recently had been employed by the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

Andy was a long-time member of the Girard Post #494 Sons of the American Legion and was also active in the District Sons of the American Legion as Vice Commander and was a former member of the Girard American Legion Color Guard. Andy had over 50 years of service with A.F. Dobler Hose Co., in Girard as a volunteer and in the past, held the position of Chief of Fire Police. As a young man, he was active in the Girard Troop #53 Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah A. (McNeish) Vasilik in 2018, whom he married October 13, 1970 in Dillon, SC; also by a son-in-law, Charles Smith; sister-in-law, Okie Vasilik; a brother, Donald Vasilik, and a great granddaughter, Alivia Shaye Westerburg.

He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his daughter, Roxanne Smith (Tony Mazola) of Girard; two sons, Andrew "Andy" Vasilik (Lisa), Robert "Bob" Vasilik (Marni Ross); a sister, Michele Laskowski (Richard); a brother, Michael Vasilik, Grandchildren, Aaron Vasilik (Brandy), Alex "Chub" Vasilik, Adam Vasilik, Alyssa Vasilik (Andrew Westerburg); and a great granddaughter, Adeline Vasilik. He will also be missed by Roxanne's pup "Barqs", who Andy called "his little buddy."

Friends may call on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Edder Family Funeral Home, LLC, 309 Main St. East, Girard and attend services there the following day, Thursday, at 11:00 am.
