Shirley A. (Gilbert) Struchen

Shirley A. Struchen, 82 of Girard, passed away on Saturday March 2, 2019 at her home following a brief illness.
 She was born in Cambridge Springs, January 8, 1937, a daughter of the late George and Virginia (Peters) Gilbert.
 Shirley grew up in the Girard area, graduating from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1955.  Following high school she worked at Reese’s Plaza, Marx Toys and Hopkins Mfg. as an Assembler. Later in life she was well known in the area for taking care of children for parents who were working. She loved being in her home taking care of her family, which was always the priority in her life. Shirley was very fond of her animals and enjoyed taking care of her cats and the family dog.
 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Beverly Gilbert, Mabel Imig and Vicki Hinzy.
 She will be greatly missed by her family, which include her husband, Gerald L. “Jerry” Struchen, whom she married, November 9, 1963 at the Lake City United Methodist Church, also by her daughters, Kimberly Keller (Dan) and Valerie Hartley (Dan); three brothers, George “Tink” Gilbert, Ron Gilbert and Gerald Gilbert (Nora); her grandchildren, Cory Hartley, Cody Hartley, Cameron Hartley (Krysta), Alex Keller and Zachary Keller also several nieces and nephews.
 There will be no calling hours or services observed.
 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 E. 10th St., Erie PA 16511.
