George H. Ester Jr.

George H. Ester, 83 of Erie, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 28, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor, Surrounded by his family. 
 George was born August 1, 1933 in Erie, a son of the late George H. and Margaret (Stellmach) Ester Sr.
 He was raised and educated in the Ft. Leboeuf area growing up on Loop Road.
 He began working at Hammermill Paper Company at the age of 18 and shortly thereafter was inducted into the US Army at the age of 19. He completed his basic training at Fort Belvoir, VA and was later trained in the Combat Engineers there as well. He was deployed to Austria where he served with Alpha Battery, 111th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion.  He returned home following his honorable discharge in 1955, receiving the Occupational Medal Germany; the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
 He returned to Hammermill where he worked as a Machine Tender, retiring in 1988, following 36 years of employment. He operated his own small business, "Marilyn's Ceramics" in Erie, following his retirement from Hammermill.
 He was a 20 year member of the American Legion, was a Director at the Polish National Alliance in Erie; A Director at the Sharpshooters Club in Erie and attended and was active in various Erie organizations. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially enjoying time in Garland and Springboro.
 In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn J. (Markham) Ester whom he married September 3, 1955 also by a sister, Elizabeth J. "Betty" Johnson; two brothers, James L. and Frank W. Ester.
 Survivors include his wife, Gladys (Russell) Ramp Ester, whom he married September 11, 2010; a daughter, Rebecca S. Casbohm (Jerry); a son, George H. Ester III (Chris); 6 grandchildren, James Ester, Nicole Ester, Jerry Casbohm, Bryan Ester, Lisa Broderick, Eric Ester; 11 great grandchildren; Isaiah, Catherine, Tabitha, Hannah, Jacob, Elizabeth, Nathan, Brianna, Kiersten, Noah, Kyleigh ; two sisters, Dorothy  Smith, Alice Smith; a brother, Edward A. Ester and several nieces and nephews.
 Friends may call at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
 Interment will occur at The Beaver Center Cemetery, with full military honors, on Friday at 10 a.m.
 George's family would like to express their gratitude and great thanks for the excellent care their father received while a resident at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
