Edith A. (Johnston) Lyons

March 22, 1927 ~ March 14, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Edith A. "Edie"  (Johnston) Lyons, 89, of Erie, died Tuesday March 14, 2017 at UPMC Hamot Erie.
Edie was a resident of Westlake Woods, formerly of The Regency and Montpelier Avenue in Millcreek. She was born in Reynoldsville, Pa., on March 22, 1927, the daughter of the late Merl and Nora Williams Johnston. She graduated from Reynoldsville High School in Pa. in 1944. During WWII she worked for Cameron Manufacturing where she made fuses for ammunition by the U.S. Navy. While in Erie she worked for the Erie City Library's Millcreek Branch and also volunteered at the Lakewood and Vernondale School Libraries.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Edie was also known for her vast collection of music boxes.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Julia Bowser, Nora Scholl, Mabel Johnston and Ruth DeMott; and by five brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Robert, Thomas and James Johnston.
Edie will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 69 years, Clair P. Lyons; one son, Kenneth Lyons (Kathy) of Girard; two daughters, Dr. Ruthanne McCaslin ( Dr. Edward McCaslin) of Charden, Ohio and Kathleen Jakubowski  (Ronald) of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Jakubowski) Matteson (Adam), Deborah (Jakubowski) Adams (Chris), Jeffery McCaslin (Megan), Julia McCaslin (Matt Departe), Rachel McCaslin (Dan Parker), Brent Lyons (Jennifer Raffensburger); and five great-grandchildren.
Edie will be remembered by the children who grew up in her neighborhood on Montpelier Avenue for the Tootsie Rolls she dispensed to them via a lion statue, the times she listened to their joys, their problems, their plans, and sometimes gave gentle advise. She will also be remembered by the children who attended Westminster Presbyterian Church for the Nerds candy she gave them for "behaving" in church, and by many other children who fondly called her "Grandma Lyons."
There will be no calling hours observed.
