Dale D. Thayer

Dale D. Thayer, 79, formerly of Albion, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Pleasant Ridge Manor, following an extended illness.
 He was born in Cherry Hill, Pa. on May 28, 1938 to the late Horace and Mary (Ryan) Thayer. He was raised and educated in the Albion/Springfield area and attended school in Cherry Hill. Dale enlisted in the U.S.Army in 1956  where he served with the 763rd Transportation Battalion. He was deployed to Greenland and also served stateside. Following active duty he served in the US Army Reserves until 1964. Upon his honorable discharge from the military he returned home and worked for Trans American Trucking Service, and was also an owner and operator truck driver for many years. Later he worked at Jenks Motor Sales in West Springfield as a mechanic.
  He loved puttering and working on tractors and lawnmowers, and enjoyed helping family and friends keep their equipment running.
  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death in 2012 by his wife, Violet M. (Snyder) Thayer, whom he married on June 4, 1960; also by his sister, Lois Forbes and two brothers, Albert Thayer and Richard Thayer.
  He is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. (Thayer) Brandon (Edward); and by his son, Dennis D. Thayer, all of Albion; his grandsons, Jeremy W. Graves, Master Sergeant, US Air Force (Joe'von) of Washington D.C., Bradley E. Graves of Summerville, SC.;  a great granddaughter, Amaya Graves; a sister, Sandra Roerick of Washington State; a sister in law, Dorothy Thayer of Cranesville and several nieces and nephews.
 Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday May 5, 2018 at the Pleasant Ridge Manor Chapel, 8300 West Ridge Rd., Girard at 11 a.m.
 Private burial with military honors will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
