Bernard B. "Bernie" Repel, 89, of Girard, joined the love of his life, Agnes, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Westlake Woods, where he recently resided.
He was born April 15, 1929 in North Braddock, PA, a son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Vrabel) Repel.
Bernie graduated from the Albion High School in 1947 and began working at Marx Toys in Girard in 1948. He later became foreman and eventually production manager, retiring from there in 1983. He and his wife Agnes also owned the Hallmark Stores in Fairview and the West Erie Plaza for a period of 19 years.
He was a devout member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Girard Council #5430. He enjoyed traveling and visiting friends throughout his life. He and his wife Agnes also enjoyed polka dancing, attending many events locally as well as in Youngstown, OH for a period of 16 years.
Following the death of his parents and having only local relatives living in the U.S., Bernie and Agnes decided to go to Lipany, Slovakia. Bernie could speak the Slovak language well, and both enjoyed their times there very much, especially visiting his cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes L. (Bille) Repel, whom he married, July 1, 1950 in Girard, also his sisters, Agnes Graham, Cecilia Sinkovits and Martha Fidler.
Survivors include his daughters, Deborah A. Killian (Rick) of Millcreek, Denise M. Smith (Bill) of Claysville, PA; a sister, Mary Ann Rickard (Ron) of Girard; two grandchildren, Amy C. Crolli (Brad), H. Bradley Grimshaw (Sara); great grandchildren, Alyssa and Peyton Mahoney.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard with Rev. Scott Detisch officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Westlake Woods for their exceptional care of Bernie during his residence there.
