Brian W. Armstrong, 65, of Girard, died on Wednesday February 28, 2024 at the UPMC Hamot following a battle with cancer.
He was born February 17, 1959, in Conneaut, OH, a son to the late James and Grace (Hunt) Armstrong.
Brian attended Conneaut Valley High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He was deployed to Korea where he was engaged as an engineer with the 92nd Engineer Battalion, tasked with maintaining roads and constructing bridges. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and attained the Rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the states and found work. Brian traveled often while working as a laborer with the Local Labor Union 310 based in Cleveland. Brian was a hardworking man who woke early and returned late with callused hands and dirty clothes. His many jobs honed his skills in various areas, making him proficient in all kinds of work. Brian dedicated over three decades to the Union before retiring from a job well done.
Brain’s leisure hours were often spent cooking, he was a chef at heart. Brian was able to take a recipe and create it anew for his family and friends, adding his own twist to each dish. Summer gatherings were a warmly welcomed event with Brian caring for the food. He had a love of fishing that he shared with his sons at an early age, often casting on Mosquito Lake and Lake Erie. Recently, he bought a bass fishing boat that he was eager to get back onto the water despite his illness. He loved his family and ensured they knew his love. He was a member of the Girard American Legion Post #494 and the Conneaut Eagles Club #408.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving companion, Rene Hawthorn; and a brother, Timothy Armstrong.
He will be greatly missed by his family which includes his sons, Jonathan (Jacalyn), Christopher, and Jason Armstrong; his sisters, Dina Tackett (Steve), Diane Schatz, Darla Armstrong, Debbie Armstrong, and Denise Armstrong; grandchildren, Maxwell, Lillie, and Tessa Armstrong; as well as many nieces and nephews.
