Thomas A. Fluegel

Thomas A. Fluegel, 73 of Erie, passed away on Thursday July 20, 2017 at UPMC Hamot, following a fall at home.
 He was born August 27, 1943 in Erie, a son of the late Albert and Ruth (Steiner) Fluegel.
 Tom graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie in 1961. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon completion of basic training at Great Lakes, he was stationed in Norfolk VA where he became a Radio man, later being stationed at Mayport, FL. (JAX). He served aboard the USS Kenneth D. Bailey (DDR-713), completing two Mediterranean cruises. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to the Erie area and began working at the Lord Corporation, becoming a Machinist there and retiring in 2008. 
 He was a member of the Orville Frank VFW Post # 742 in Fairview; a life member of VFW Post #4965 in East Springfield and enjoyed spending his winters in Florida and antique cars.
 In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a son, LCPL Richard A. Fluegel USMC, who was killed in action at the bombing of the Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut Lebanon in 1983 and a sister-in-law, Becky Fluegel.
 His family includes his wife, Marilou C. (Blystone) Fluegel, whom he married July 22, 1972 in Lake City, also by a daughter, Penni A. Bernard (Michael “Mickey”) of Lafayette, LA; a son, Robert J. Fluegel (Julie) of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Judith A. Omen (Joseph) of Tucson, AZ, Nancy R. Tarasovich of Mentor, OH; a brother, Larry Fluegel of Erie; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Daisy.
 No calling hours or services will be observed. 
 Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
