Robert A. “Bobby” Niskanen, 65 a lifelong resident of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday July 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Erie, May 9, 1952, a son of Matthew and Audrey (Hughes) Niskanen of Erie.
Bob graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1970, where he was a football player, a wrestler and was in the school band for the Yellowjackets. Following high school he attended and graduated from Penn State University (Altoona), where he studied Agricultural Science. He began his working career at Copes Vulcan in Lake City, Tru Temper and Parker White Metal (Now PHB Diecast) for 11 years, then Tetra Tool where he was a Toolmaker for 32 years. He was most recently employed by GeorgeKo Industries Inc. in Erie.
He was a member of the Girard Presbyterian Church, Lake Erie Lodge #347 F AM; a Die- hard Cleveland Indians and Browns fan; He loved softball and playing in the leagues, most recently playing for Tetra Tool, retiring from the sport due to ill health. Bob loved sitting by campfires with his family,cooking, grilling, gardening, hunting and simply being outside.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family, which in addition to his parents, include his wife, Edith M. (Jones) Niskanen, whom he married September 20, 1980 in Girard; three daughters, Kelly M. Niskanen-Carey (Jeff) of Wattsburg, Lori B. Niskanen of Millcreek, Jaci E. Niskanen of Lake City; two brothers, Sam Niskanen (Belinda) of Flower Mound, TX, Dan Niskanen (MC) of Roseville, CA; his beloved grandchildren, Ella M. and Annalie M. Niskanen; his last living Aunt, Shirley (Jim) Adams and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday from 6 p.m. to the time of a Prayer Service at 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.
