Michael G. Howard, 27, of Fairview, lost his battle with addiction on Monday, November 27, 2017 at St.Vincent Health Center.
 He was born December 26, 1989, in Erie, a son of Michael and Catherine (Newcomb) Howard of Erie.
 Michael attended Fairview High School and later graduated from Harborcreek High School. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army where he deployed to Iraq in 2009 with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division, 155 mm Self Propelled, “Gunners.”  He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Army Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Ribbon. 
 Following his honorable discharge from the military he returned home and worked at Curtze Food Service and later worked at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center, with the Cognitive Work Therapy Program there, assisting other Veterans returning home from military service.
 Mike loved weightlifting, fishing and camping with his family.
 He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents, Norma J. and Nathan Howard ; an Uncle, Stephen Newcomb and a brother in infancy, Matthew Howard.
 In addition to his parents, he will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his brother, Alex N. Howard; maternal grandmother, Shirley (Holmstrom) Wagoner, maternal grandfather, Richard A. Wagoner; his aunts, Karin McKinney, Sheryl Dunn, Marjorie Jenks, Katherine Willover, and Lori Zundel; uncles, Patrick McKinney, Edward Newcomb, and Richard Wagoner; and many cousins and friends.
 Friends may call on Friday (TODAY) from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to the time of a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard.
 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael G. Howard Memorial Fund, C/O Edder Funeral Home.
