Michael Skapura, 89 of Girard, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday January 7, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.
 He was born May 2, 1927 in Erie, a son of the late Michael S. and Mary B. (Turify) Skapura.
 Mike graduated from Millcreek High School in 1945 where he was President of the FFA (Future Farmers of America). He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, where he served aboard the USS Tarawa and the USS Chloris. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to the Erie area then moving to Girard in 1969. He with his father owned Mikes Bait on West 12th St., in Erie. Later was a sales agent for Prudential Life and then Penndot, in Municipal Services in Franklin as Manager. He later owned a bait shop in Jamestown, PA on the south end of Pymatuning Reservoir. Mike completed his working career at Erie County Farms as a Manager.
  He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard. Mike loved ice fishing for his entire life and had great pride in his rose garden at home.
 In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Andrew in infancy and also Bernard J. Skapura.
  Mike will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Florence (Wasiulewski) Skapura whom he married August 8, 1951 in Erie; also by his two sons,  Michael J. Skapura of Girard and Paul Skapura of Girard; his sister Ann DeMarco of Erie; his granddaughter, Sr. Elizabeth of the Trinity O.C.D., Carmel of Jesus, Mary & Joseph in Elysburg, Pa. also many nieces and nephews.
 Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with Fr. William Miller officiating.
