Donald P. Schaack, 68, of Albion, passed away on Monday March 20, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor following a brief illness.
  Don was born January 15, 1949 in Platea, a son of the late, Ronald and Gertrude (Toth) Schaack.
  He graduated from the Northwestern High School in 1967.  Immediately following high school he enlisted in the US Army, where he was later deployed to Vietnam, serving in combat operations with the 9th Infantry Division; Company D, 1st Battalion.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/ device and received two overseas bars.
  Upon his discharge from the military as Staff Sgt he returned home to the Platea area where he began working as a machinist at various manufacturing companies in the Erie Area. Later in life Don found his true passion, flying. He received his private pilot's license in 1988 and later went on to earn his instrument ratings and became a Certified Flight Instructor. Don had a total flight hours of near 4000 and was very proud of his military service and flight status. Loved the outdoors and playing on his Kubota.
  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. (Miller) Schaack, whom he married on December 28, 1968 in Montgomery, PA; a half sister, Donna Lee Madar; also a son in law, Michael Saul.
  His family includes his daughters, Stephenie R. Saul of Erie, Stacy Garlick (Michael) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Brendan Garlick, Seth Garlick; brother, Ronald M. Schaack of Erie. 
  No calling hours or services will be observed.
