David J. Janas Sr., 74 of Girard, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 5, 1943 in Erie, PA, a son of Leonard and Josephine (Podolski) Janas.
Following graduation from Tech Memorial High School he joined the military and was a member of the US Army, 82nd Airborne, serving at Ft. Bragg, NC from 1961-1962. He owned and operated his own construction company in Erie for 15 years and later employed in shipping and receiving at Modern Tool. He also was a truck driver, drove armored cars, and was a private detective and most recently employed at Boldt Machinery, Inc. in Erie, where he retired from in 1996.
He enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, and making things for his family. He also enjoyed working on his and family members vehicles at home. He loved his dogs at home, "Bear" and "Somewhere" and his cat, "Cookie".
Dave was a member of the Polish Falcon Club in Erie and the CYS club also in Erie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Renze Janas, whom he married in 1977 and a daughter, Sherrie Ann (Renze) Orsini in 2009.
Dave will be greatly missed by his family, which include two daughters, Dawn Marie Renze (Fred Yoder) of Goshen, IN, Tina Marie (Renze) Graves of Girard; two sons, David J. Janas Jr. (Stephanie Douglas) of Girard, Vincent J. Renze (Edith Schmucker) of Girard; a sister, Patricia Yurasko, (Andy) of Erie; 15 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Ackerman of New Life Community Church in Fairview officiating.
