David C. Falvo

October 13, 1964 ~ September 1, 2017 (age 52) 52 Years Old


David C. Falvo, 52 of Girard, passed away on Friday September 1, 2017 at St. Vincent Health Center, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He bravely fought a courageous battle for many years with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He is finally pain-free and resting in the loving arms of our good Lord.
 He was born October 13, 1964 in Clearfield, PA, a son of the late Carl A. and Thelma A. (Evans) Falvo.
 Dave graduated from Clearfield High School in 1982. Following high school he graduated in 1986 from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. In 1989 he received his Masters of Education in Mathematics also from Penn State University. He began his employment career at Penn State Erie, the Behrend College, teaching mathematics from 1989 to present.  He also worked for Larson Texts as a co author of mathematic textbooks from 1992 to present. He received the “Teacher of the Year” award by the Mathematical Association of America in 2000 and was nominated five times for the Penn State Council of Fellows Excellence in Teaching Award. He was a greatly loved teacher by his students, and highly respected by his fellow Penn State faculty and staff. Throughout his career he always received excellent evaluations from his students.
   He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard; a member of the Knights of Columbus council #5430 Girard; the Penn State Alumni Association and the Clearfield Baseball Association.
 Dave loved playing baseball as a first baseman for Clearfield High School, Penn State DuBois and various teams in Clearfield County. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Penn State Nittany Lions. He enjoyed running, working out at the gym, doing yardwork and detailing his beloved Jeep Wrangler. 
 In addition to his parents Dave was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Sophie Falvo; his maternal grandparents David and Hazel Evans; his sister in law, Brenda Whitman and a niece Katrina Whitman. 
 Dave will be greatly missed by his family, which include his loving wife, Susan J. (Housley) Falvo, whom he married August 17, 1991 in Philipsburg, PA; his daughter, Sofia M. Falvo who was his pride and joy; brother, Mark A. Falvo; father and mother in law, William H. and Mary Kay Housley; sister in law, Beth Laird (Thomas); brother in law, William H. Housley Jr. ( Suzy) ; nephews, Nathan Laird, Jonathan Whitman and Luke Housley, nieces, Sarah Whitman, Kylie Laird, Eve Housley; God daughter and niece, Paige Housley, God son, Seth King, an Aunt, Elizabeth Falvo; several cousins and many dear friends.
 Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard with Rev. William O’Brien as Celebrant and Rev. William Miller as concelebrant.
 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sofia’s Educational Fund, C/O Edder Funeral Home.
 Burial will be in the Crown Crest Cemetery, Clearfield County.
