Dale A. “Walt” Rogers, 79 of Girard, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 9, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Erie, February 14, 1938, a son of the late William C. and Cathryn H. (Kratzke) Rogers.
Dale graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1956. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Kretchmer (DD329), an Edsall-class Destroyer escort, as a Fireman. Following active duty, he remained in the US Naval Reserves, until his honorable discharge in 1962. He worked at Girard’s Arco Station and Parker-White Metal (Now PHB Diecast), working there many years, most recently in the Shipping Department, retiring from there.
He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, and was especially proud of his 1970 El Camino and two, 57 Chevrolet Bel Airs, which he personally restored and painted. He also enjoyed riding snowmobiles throughout his life and was a member of Triangle S Snowmobile Club and the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club.
Dale will be greatly missed by his family, which include his wife, Linda J. (Hathaway) Rogers, whom he married, February 9, 1963 in Erie, also by a daughter, Karen L. Traut (John) of Albion; a son, Dale A. Rogers Jr. (Diane) of Girard; three grandchildren, Courtney Traut, Daniel Rogers and Carly Rogers, also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery with Full military honors.
