Betty Hoffman, 89 of Erie and formerly of Ridgway, died Monday May 15, 2017 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center , Erie, PA.
 Betty was born February 4, 1928 in Cloe, PA, a daughter of Paul and Hazel (Johnson) Mitchell.
 She was raised and educated in Ridgway, Elk County, PA, and graduated from the Ridgway HIgh School in 1946. She married Harry Hoffman on September 15, 1947. They celebrated 50 years of marriage immediately preceding his death in 1997. She was employed at the Elk County General Hospital as an Operator on the switchboard. She also held jobs in the Radiology Dept.and Medical Billing. She worked for many years for several doctors in the Ridgway-St.Marys area.
 Betty was a pianist at the Church of the Nazarene in Ridgway, Pa, for 50 years.
 She was the director and pianist for the Sentimental Seniors at the Ridgway Center for many years.
 Betty opened her home and housed many evangelist that led revival in her church.
 She was involved in the Christian Women's Club in Ridgway for many years, leading bible studies and held many offices on the board, including President.
 Betty raised five children and cared for nine grandchildren over the years along with her husband. She enjoyed music, knitting, puzzles and playing games. She loved to share the love of Jesus and did so with all those she met, whether through words or simple acts of kindness. Everyone loved her and knew her as a great prayer warrior. She moved to Erie in 1999 where she was a welcome addition at Grace Baptist Church and started  a "game night" in her home for ladies in her church and any friends who cared to come. Many of these women affectionately referred to her as Aunt Betty.
 In 2012 Betty took residence in Sarah Reed Retirement Center. Due to many health issues she required 24-hour medical care at Sarah Reed. Betty soon became known there as the "Puzzle Queen". She was considered to be an inspiration to many of those who came into contact with her there.
 She was a very loving mother who always believed her family was her "mission field". Her family was her first love, but all who knew her said her love certainly beyond her family and reached those she came into contact with daily. MAny of her nieces and nephews were lovingly made to feel like her children and actively enjoyed this relationship until the very end of her life.
 Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hoffman; two sisters, Sarah Platt (Ridgway) and Edna Mae Nero (Bob Nero- Ridgway), and two brothers Lloyd Mitchell (Addie Mitchell)- Thermopolis, WY and Paul Mitchell (Ridgway)   
 She is survived by two Daughters, Darla Zuchelli of Sarasota, PA, Jeanne (Walt) Sykes of Erie, PA; Three Sons, Dennis (Susan) Hoffman of West Middlesex, PA, H. Thomas (Sandy) Hoffman, Robert S. Hoffman; nine grandchildren; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.

 Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday May 27, at Grace Church, 7300 Grubb Rd., Erie from 2 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service there at 3 p.m. with Pastor Richard Page officiating. All are cordially invited to a luncheon following the service.
