Bertha M. (Sydow) Leuschen, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Edinvoro Manor.
She was born on April 21, 1943, a daughter of the late William F. and Opal L. Swift Sydow.
Bertha worked at Howard Johnson's in Erie. later moving to Southern California in 1971. Though she enjoyed holding a variety of employment types, most often she stayed with restaurant waitress positions. For a time Bertha also worked at the Los Angelas Coliseum where she enjoyed dealing with celebrities, including Alex Haley. For a period of one year Bertha took a contract working with seafood processing in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on one of the Aleutian Islands. When she returned to Seattle, she delivered newspapers in her car over a period of four years, claiming she never missed a day of work. Bertha enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and always had her toenails painted. She drove too fast, walked like she was on a mission, laughed until she cried and was never afraid of anything. And yes, she did some wrestling. This woman was a hot pepper in a vanilla world.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Sydow.
She is survived by her son, Eric A. Leuschen (Janet) of San Diego, Calif.; her sister, Bonnie L. DuMars of Lake City; her brothers, Norman F. Sydow (Donna) of Phoenix, Ariz. and Bradley G. Sydow of Lake City; grandchildren, Desiree Sloan of Alabama , Maxine Leuschen and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held privately by the family.
